A few posts ago I waxed on the wonders of compost. Until our friend Jacqui jump-started the compost project I had been just tossing spent produce into the bushes haphazardly around the property. This worked in the colder months when i had no desire to dig a real pile, but it also provided a wonderful surprise a few days ago when i realized we had several volunteer plants growing in our bushes. They look to be of the Cucurbita family, and I am really looking forward to finding out what the heck they are. A good gardening surprise for the weeks to come. They are just about to flower so we should know soon and I will post more pictures as fruit forms. Enjoy the weekend, and thanks for the rain! 🙂
