This was the face I got this morning when we all realized it was a snow day here in the North East, so I went with it…

I saw some of my friend’s drawings which aren’t, but look like, continuous line drawings. I used to love doing them, and in fact, felt like most of the time they looked better and more realistic than my more-studied drawings. So, while staring out at the beautiful winter blue of the backyard for hours this weekend as I keep my flu-stricken husband company in bed, I thought I would put my gazing to good use. I think I’ll go make some more now:)

Sometimes when you add ingredients that are wonderful all on their own, the combination can go terribly awry: brownies and pad thai, drinking & driving, or cats and the microwave (convenience + pussy= not that convenient). However, sometimes, in the case of anything turquoise, sqaure canvas, and shy octopi, the result is an engineered favorite. So here’s the result of my artistic favorites-manufacturing…

Here are a few more watercolors from 2007 I just recently photographed. The abstract pieces were done originally with Rothko in mind for an emulation assignment, but then I kind of became obsessed and went from there. The octopus is a whole ‘nother obsession, but obsession, nonetheless…

Back in October I picked up this awesome door on the side of the road, not sure what the future held for it. I decided to make it a showcase for some of my favorite photographs I’ve shot. I’m big on painting this aqua–it can generally be the answer to everything. It is hanging from the ceiling in my office now…

So I worked on this one for quite some time, probably mid-September until Dia de los Muertos, which was the original inspiration for it all. I have a thing for circles, and skulls are up there too. The foreground contains particularly iconic circles for me, such as Coney Island’s Wonder Wheel, the wheel of fortune tarot card, and the broken-spoke wagon wheel I have tattooed on my back. The circles of the Buddhist dharma wheel and the irresistible big-and-little bicycle round out the bunch. The background is our lovely little Hudson Valley landscape of the tower @ Mohonk Mountain House. It watches over us all here, a pretty nice nightlight.

Taking a watercolor course over the summer, and moving back to the Hudson Valley jump-started the creative juices and the past few months have been pretty good to me art-wise. Here’s a sampling of some recent watercolors…
